3.1.3 Right drone size
As you remember, this list was used to assist you to choose the right drone size for the job.
I must say this list is very important as the wrong choice might lead to big losses during your first season.
Take a closer look at the factors which might be relevant for your future work.
The main parameters here are the spraying or spreading rate and the field size.
You might say, well, I don't know, I have no clue about them! Ok, that will be your little homework - make a study of your area and assess the average size of the fields. For example, in some small European countries the average field size is around 10 hectares, which means medium or large drone is recommended. If you are planning to spray dense vegetation like orchards or wineries with rates up to 100 liters per hectare, you will require a large drone.
It is not a big mistake, if you will buy a bigger drone than you actually need. The only downside is that you might have to invest 30% more capital in the purchase, but as a result you will get same productivity as for smaller drone.
It will be a big mistake if you buy a drone of smaller size than you actually need. We don't recommend to service companies buying a 10 or 15 liter drone, unless you are 100% sure you will be spraying or spreading only small rates. Medium sized drone, like DJI T30, is also very efficient for small rate application.
Basically, for a service company we would recommend to choose between 30 or 40 liter drone, which is adequate for most work scenarios.
Currently, there is only one 30 liter drone available on the EU market, which is DJI T30, and two 40 liter drones - DJI T50 and XAG P100.
The 20 liter drone might be the smallest drone which a service company might consider buying.
20 liter drones a very popular in Ukraine, as they are mainly spraying pesticides with small rates from 5 to 10 liters.
Currently you may find an XAG P40 model and DJI T25 models, which both have 20 liter tanks. DJI T30 is an old-time model and very soon it will be replaced by the T50 model.
We don't know how many T30 models remain in stock in Europe, but once they are all sold out, you will be able to buy only 20 or 40 liter models.
